Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was asked this week about the ball security shown by punt returner Marcus Sherels over the years. It turns out, Zimmer challenged Sherels to be more aggressive before a big game on Sunday.
"Yeah, that’s important all of the time," Zimmer said of Sherels' ball security. "He’s done a really good job with that. I think since I’ve been here there’s been one fumble or something. We kind of challenged him a little bit this last week with being more aggressive. In Seattle the ball bounced one time, there was another time when I thought he could have returned it that he fair caught. This time he was much better, and I thought we blocked better on the edges too.
Sherels apparently got the message with a season-long, 70-yard return that he almost returned for a touchdown.
