Zimmer said "you trust your gut" regarding change at offensive coordinator

Zimmer has said he doesn't want to waste this season with a playoff spot still a possibility.

Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer made the change at offensive coordinator on Tuesday and added a bit more about the decision on Wednesday.

One point Zimmer made Tuesday was that he didn't want this season to "be wasted."

He was asked Wednesday how he sees this move preventing the season from being wasted.

"I don’t know that it does," Zimmer said. "I just felt like this is what we need to do at this particular time. I didn’t feel like we could continue to do what we’ve been doing the last few weeks and accomplish much that we want to do. It may work, it may not work. You get feelings and you trust your gut and it’s no difference than it’s fourth-and-eight and you have to call blitz. You meet it head on and you go. That is just the way we are going to do it."

Minnesota is 6-6-1 and currently in the sixth spot in the NFC playoff picture as it hosts Miami (7-6 and fighting for the playoffs in the AFC) on Sunday.
