Wes Welker Leaves the Houston Texans for the San Francisco 49ers

Wes Welker Leaves the Houston Texans for the San Francisco 49ers to continue his coaching career.

Former Houston Texans offensive assistant Wes Welker will be leaving to the San Francisco 49ers to become their wide receiver coach according to reports. The Houston Chronicle's John McClain first reported that Welker was leaving to the 49ers shortly after the Texans announced their 2019 coaching staff.

Welker during the start of the off-season interviewed with both the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers for coaching vacancies. The Packers filled their receiver coaching position and the 49ers currently have Mike LaFleur as their wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator.

The past two seasons, Welker started his coaching career with the Texans working with returners and the slot wide receivers. Welker was instrumental in finding current Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee from his alma mater in Texas Tech and his potential fit into the offense.
