The Houston Texans have signed free agent quarterback A.J. McCarron who played the 2018 season with the Oakland Raiders. The Texans were looking to add a younger option behind Deshaun Watson and felt confident McCarron could be the backup for this offense. The deal is a one-year, $3 million deal for McCarron adding him to the 2019 Texans roster.
McCarron was a 5th round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Spending four seasons with the Bengals, McCarron was Andy Dalton’s primary backup.
In five seasons, McCarron appeared in 13 games with 3 starts coming in the 2015 season. In 2015, McCarron threw for 854 yards with 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions completing 66.4% of his passes.
For his career, McCarron had 928 yards passing while completing 64.0% of his passes for 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
