The Houston Texans are hosting free agent punter Marquette King and NRG Stadium. The deadline has passed for NFL teams on being penalized for signing free agents affecting their compensatory picks. The Texans are in line for at least three selections with the exit of free agents signing with other teams.
King punted for the Denver Broncos last season averaging 44.1 yards a punt after having a successful six seasons with the Oakland Raiders averaging 46.8 yards per punt.
Last season the Texans opted for rookie free agent Trevor Daniel over veteran Shane Lechler, and the rookie from Tennessee had an up and down season averaging 43.7 yards per punt.
The Texans will continue to address the roster and most importantly create competition between position groups to bring the best out of players during OTAs and training camp. A veteran like King would push Daniel to keep his job for the 2019 season pushing him to improve on his 2018 rookie season.
