Sunday press conference: LT Duane Brown 7/29/18

(On signing a new contract) “It’s a great feeling. I’m extremely happy and grateful. Very thankful to the organization, Paul Allen, John Schneider, Coach Carroll, everyone that worked to secure me here for a long time. I’m looking forward to finishing out my career here, it’s a great organization. Love the team, love the city, love the fans. I’m just immensely grateful for this opportunity, I’m looking forward to getting to work.”

(On when contract negotiations started) “A while ago. I’ve been working on it for a while. It’s the business aspect of it so I just let my agent Kennard McGuire handle it. They did a great job communicating and I knew for a long time that I was secure here, just a matter of getting it done. I just wanted to come in and get to work like I said. I wanted to have a full season here, full offseason and I was happy I was able to do that so far.”

(On communication with management) “It was great, it was great. They communicated that early on and it was no doubt in any of our minds that we could get it done. I wanted to show my commitment to the team and our future by being here. Just my situation like I said coming in half way through the season, you want to be here for the offseason for me to learn the team more, to have my impact in the locker room, my leadership skills. I was grateful to be able to do that. They worked behind the scenes to get it done. I’m just grateful everything came into play.”

(On coming in for the full season) “It’s a lot easier. Coming in in the middle of the year, I knew maybe four guys on this team. No one really knows you. They respect your game, but you don’t know anybody. Going to battle with people every week, you just try to gel as the year goes on. But being here throughout the offseason, people seeing me have my grind and my work ethic, I think they respect me a lot more. Seeing my leadership through example and vocally I think it’s helped me be a part of the fabric of the locker room a lot more.”

(On last season’s holdout) “Everything is worth the upgrade. I’m just grateful for this opportunity. I couldn’t ask to be in a better situation. I love this team, I love this organization. There is a huge amount of mutual respect and I’m very happy to finish out my career here.”

(On his emotions over the past year) “I’ve had a sense of peace for a long time. Last year this time, I was very anxious and uncertain. This whole year I’ve been at peace. I wasn’t worried about anything when I showed up for workouts or when I showed up for OTA’s. I wasn’t worried about what was going on behind the scenes, I was just handling my business and controlling what I can control. So, I’ve been at peace for a long time. Yesterday when I signed the paper, and everything was finalized, just joy. Just ultimate joy and gratuity is where I’m at right now.”

(On the first day of pads) “It’s my first year of padded training camp in two years. Two years ago, I was coming off of a quad injury and last year I wasn’t a part of training camp. So, it’s very exciting, very exciting. And watching the young guys get so geeked up for pads it just reminds you of the love and passion for the game. I never lost it but when you come into a new situation and seeing how young our team is and everybody is so excited. It’s just really rejuvenating. I’m very excited about this group that we have and the potential we have going into the season.”
