Patriots Notebook after 26-10 Loss to the Detroit Lions

Pats are getting thiner at running back with Rex Burkhead Injury

Detroit Michigan --

Problems At Running Back

RB Rex Burkhead left the game with a neck injury early in the second half. Burkhead had no rushing attempts and had two catches for 26 yards. The Pats cannot afford to lose anymore running backs. If Burkhead is hurt the Pats will have only two healthy running backs on the roster - Sony Michel and James White. Jeremy Hill is already lost for the year with a torn ACL. The Pats released Kenjon Barner earlier this week. Sony Michel did the bulk of the running for the Pats Sunday Night against the Lions. Michel finished with 14 carries for 50 yards. The Pats rushed the ball only 19 times. James White, who had only five carries and caught a touchdown pass, needs to be more involved. Brady said White is a great player after the game.

Same Old Disappointment at Wide Receiver

The Pats wide receiver core is desperate at this point. Josh Gordon was inactive. Phillip Dorsett had no catches. Cordarrelle Patterson had one catch for 12 yards. Chris Hogan had three catches for 31 yards. The Lions also did an excellent job on Rob Gronkowski who for the second straight week was a non-factor with only four catches for 51 yards. Not having Jacob Hollister who injured his chest Friday at practice did not help either. On Tom Brady's interception in the second half - the offensive line could not protect any longer. Everyone was covered. The problem with Patterson is that he is a gadget player, who the Pats are having a difficult time integrating into the offense. The Pats only have one more game without Julian Edelman.

Patriots Inactives

The Pats inactives were Josh Gordon, OL Cole Croston, OL Brian Schwenke, DL Trey Flowers, S Patrick Chung, CB Eric Rowe and TE Jacob Hollister. J.C. Jackson replaced Jason McCourty for a short time in the second quarter. Jason McCourty later returned.
