The Carolina Panthers have claimed running back Kenjon Barner off waivers on Wednesday, the team announced.

Barner played five games with the New England Patriots this season, totaling 71 rushing yards on 19 carries. He was with the Panthers throughout 2018 training camp and the preseason before being terminated on cut-down day.

Barner won a Super Bowl with Philadelphia in 2017, as he played in 13 games with one start for the Eagles last season, rushing for 57 yards on 16 attempts. He had a career-best 129 yards rushing with two touchdowns for Philadelphia in 2016.

A sixth-round draft pick by the Panthers in 2013, Barner played in eight games for Carolina in his rookie season.

In a corresponding move, the Panthers waived cornerback Josh Hawkins. Hawkins played in five games this season, primarily on special teams.
