Training Camp Roster Preview: S Sean Chandler

What you need to know about safety Sean Chandler

Background

In college, Sean Chandler spent part of his first two seasons as a cornerback before moving over to safety.

Chandler, a Camden High School alumnus, continued to learn on the job when he came to the Giants, and managed to parlay a strong training camp in 2018 into a spot on the 53-man roster.

In 143 defensive snaps, he proved himself to be more of a box safety type than a coverage safety, the latter being a role with which the team probably could have used more help.

Looking Ahead

Chandler has been sidelined most of the spring with an undisclosed issue.

Although he was one of the players whom head coach Pat Shurmur said should be good to go for training camp, that he missed crucial spring reps can't be good when veteran Michael Thomas and youngsters behind him like Corey Ballentine and Julian Love, both of whom can do some work at safety are behind him.

Any idea what happened to Chandler? I thought he looked promising, but now it just seems like he's fallen off the proverbial cliff.
