Training Camp Roster Preview: LB Ryan Connelly

What you need to know about linebacker Ryan Connelly.

Background

‚ÄčRyan Connelly is no stranger to overcoming the odds.

A walk-on at the University of Wisconsin, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native took no days off in his quest to not only make and stick on the Badgers but also become a starter, all of which he accomplished by his senior year.

It's that same determination that likely attracted the Giants. Although Connelly is a draft pick, he approaches every practice as though it will be his last, and seeks to make the moment count.

Connelly played in 52 games with 26 starts at inside linebacker. His career stats include 251 tackles, 29.0 TFLs, 6.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

Looking Ahead

Connelly has only been with the team for a short period, but he's already earned himself a reputation as a hardworking and smart player.

With that said, Connelly will probably spend most of this year as a backup to B.J. Goodson and a special teams performer.

Goodson is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this year, so it's possible that the Giants are hoping to see Connelly get his feet wet this year so that if Goodson leaves via free agency next year, they have a replacement ready.
