The New York Giants will open their 2019 preseason schedule with back-to-back home games, including a rare preseason opener against the New York Jets.
Usually the Giants and Jets play each other in the third week of the preseason, a game largely considered a dress rehearsal by that point in the summer. However, both teams, who will also face each other in the regular season, apparently decided to shake things up and play each o other in the preseason opener for just the third time in the 50-year-old preseason series.
The Giants have won the three previous preseason meetings, including 22-16 last year, and trail in the annual series, 25-24-1. Their preseason matchup with the Jets will take place sometime between August 8-12.
In Week 2 of the preseason, the Giants will host the Chicago Bears, whom they defeated last year in overtime, 30-27. It will be the teams’ first preseason meeting since 2012, when the Bears won, 20-17. The 2019 preseason contest will take place during the weekend of August 15-19.
New York will finish its four-game preseason schedule with consecutive road games, including a Week 3 contest at Cincinnati sometime between August 22-25 and their usual preseason finale against the New England Patriots, which is tentatively scheduled for August 29, 10 days before the regular-season opener.
This will be the 15th consecutive year the two teams will close the preseason by facing one another. The Giants will also face the Patriots on the road in the 2019 regular season.
Exact dates and times for the Giants four preseason games will be announced at a later date. The Giants, however, will not have any preseason games appearing on national television this summer.
