One of the players currently training at XPE leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft is Kyle Phillips, a hybrid defensive lineman from the University of Tennessee who is agile, athletic and extremely quick.
The Volunteers team captain enjoyed a career year in 2018, registering 55 tackles, including seven and a half for loss and four sacks. In addition, he proved to have active hands at the line of scrimmage, batting down four passes and returning an interception for a touchdown against Alabama (earning him the Piesman Trophy Award). Phillips has been praised for his strong leadership during some difficult times in Knoxville by coaches and players alike.
NFL teams are split as to whether they like him more lining up inside or outside along the defensive line. His frame and athleticism could possibly even allow for him to line up as a 3-4 outside linebacker. While his position at the next level remains a mystery, one thing is for certain. His speed is sure to grab the attention of talent evaluators come pro day on March 14th.
