Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler is nursing an undisclosed upper-body injury, according to a published report.
Hays Carlyon of 1010XL reported that Fowler “lost sizable muscle mass in his upper body,” leaving questions about his availability for the start of the team’s training camp on July 26.
“We will just see,” Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said of the 23-year-old Fowler, who was the third overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Fowler recorded four sacks in 2016, doubled that total in 2017 and added a pair in the Jaguars’ AFC Championship Game loss to the New England Patriots in January. He also had 21 tackles last season.
This season looms large for Fowler, who saw the Jaguars decline to pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.
Fowler has recorded 53 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 32 career games with the Jaguars.
