The main story of the Jets' 13-6 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday was Snap-gate, obviously.
But buried in New York's offensive misery, was a solid season debut for Elijah McGuire, their 2017 sixth-round pick out of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The 24-year-old rushed for 23 yards on six carries, including a 14-yarder that was the Jets' longest run of the game. His total is a bit skewed because he lost five yards on one rush when numerous Jets were in the backfield as soon as he touched the ball.
McGuire also had three catches for 37 yards, including a 20-yarder when the Jets split him out wide (something offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates did a few times Sunday).
With Bilal Powell out for the season, the Jets were a bit thin at running back with only Isaiah Crowell and rookie Trenton Cannon, who had 15 touches the last two games but none on Sunday.
McGuire finished with 315 rushing yards, 177 receiving and two touchdowns last year as a rookie.
The five-year veteran Crowell has had a rough last few weeks, failing to gain more than 50 rushing yards in the last four games after rushing for a franchise record 219 in a Week 5 win over the Broncos.
