The Atlanta Falcons cut three players this last week. Two of them -- cornerback Robert Alford and linebacker Brooks Reed have already landed with the Arizona Cardinals.
About 10 years ago, Arizona received the nickname Pittsburgh west when Ken Whisenhunt took so many former Steelers players with him to the desert. Well, apparently the Cardinals are taking a stab at a couple Falcons castoffs. If they sign anymore ex-Falcons, Arizona may need to change their name to Atlanta west.
Alford played six seasons for the Falcons, recording 10 interceptions in 88 games. He also had 85 pass defenses. Reed called Atlanta home for four years after beginning his career with the Houston Texans. Reed posted 101 total tackles and 7.0 sacks in 60 games with the Falcons.
If nothing else, this will add extra intrigue to when the Falcons and Cardinals meet during the 2019 season. The schedule doesn't come out until April, but the two squads will be playing in Glendale at some point this fall.
Atlanta beat Arizona this past season in December, 40-14.
