Lane Johnson ruled out for Sunday night's game with knee injury

After being listed as questionable, the RT had hpped to play; Vaitai will start in Johnson's place

Right tackle Lane Johnson had hoped to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, but the MCL strain in his left knee did not cooperate.

Johnson tested the knee prior to the game at Lincoln Financial Field and it did not pass, so he was made inactive. Halapoulivaati Vaitai will start in place of Johnson. Rookie Jordan Mailata was active, but that doesn’t mean he would be the first tackle in should Vaitai or left tackle Jason Peters suffer an in-game injury.

It would be more likely that the Eagles would shift Isaac Seumalo from his starting left guard spot to tackle and insert veteran Stefen Wisniewski before they would turn to the still-raw Mailata.

The Eagles are 48-29 with Johnson in the starting lineup. They were 5-1 in 2016 when Johnson missed the middle of the season while serving a 10-game suspension. Last year, the team was 15-3 with him in the lineup, including their three-game run to the Super Bowl LII title.

Also inactive for the Eagles were cornerback Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones, linebacker Nate Gerry, running back Darren Sproles, quarterback Nate Sudfeld, and safety Deiondre’ Hall.
