Dallas returned home to the Ford Center in Frisco on Monday, addressed injury concerns

The Cowboys kicked off the second phase of training camp back home on Monday evening at The Ford Center in Frisco. Given the events of Saturdays preseason game against the Bengals, that meant answering a lot of questions about injuries.

Zack Martin chatted with a media huddle about the hyperextended knee that knocked him out of the game. The Cowboys were relieved that MRI reports on Sunday revealed no structural damage. Martin might not practice much between now and the season opener at Carolina on September 9, but hell evidently be ready to go once things go live.

Martin didnt seem worried about the knee and even brushed off the idea of wearing a brace.

(The injury) doesnt change anything for me, Martin said. You can move so much better without (a knee brace), so that doesnt change my thought process on that.

Martin isnt the only vital Cowboys lineman dealing with an injury. Center Travis Frederick has been sitting out, resting a sore neck that was beset with multiple stingers during the first three weeks of training camp. Garrett said on Monday that Frederick would see more specialists in the Dallas area. That was a little confusing because Frederick indicated late last week that he was all set to rest the neck for a bit and then get back to work.

Safety training

Free safety Xavier Woods pulled a hamstring against the Bengals and the diagnosis is that hell be out four to eight weeks. That puts in doubt whether or not hell be available for the season opener.

That means depth problems at the safety position.

Garrett said on Monday that the team is bringing in players to help out the numbers situation at the position. The Cowboys need healthy players just to be able to practice. But they would ideally like to find someone who can contribute.

You have to look at all possible guys, young guys, more veteran players, Garrett said. You have to overturn every stone that you can.

We recently looked at the possibility of Dallas acquiring Earl Thomas from the Seahawks. That doesnt seem to be a strong possibility, but it has to be on the radar at the moment.
