It's been 11 days since the Cowboys lost at Washington and, with this week's team schedule backed up a day in preparation for the Monday Nigh Football contest versus the Titans, it feels like a mini off-season.
So we're itching to get into some football. Dallas desperately needs a victory against Tennessee, considering the Cowboys go on the road for two straight games after this week. Here are a couple of key matchups Dallas needs to win to get that crucial W.
Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence vs. Titans QB Marcus Mariota. Tennessee is one of three teams in the NFL with a less productive offense than the Cowboys. Dallas knows all too well that a struggling offense grinds to a halt when the QB is under pressure. Lawrence, who has dazzled when healthy this season, should be feeling better after the bye week and ready to harass Mariota.
Cowboys WR Amari Cooper vs. Titans DBs. Dallas gave up a first-round pick for Cooper because it needs a top-notch WR. The Cowboys aren’t going to waste time in using Cooper, so QB Dak Prescott will be looking for him early and often. If the Cowboys break character on offense at home and try too hard to get the ball to Cooper, the Titans can stump the home team by blanketing the former Raider. On the flip side, if Cooper and Prescott can stretch the field, it could have promising implications for RB Ezekiel Elliott finding running room.
