KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs wrapped up their first week of organized team activities on Thursday with a handful of players on the sidelines or absent, including tight end Travis Kelce and offensive lineman Cam Erving.

Reid revealed on Thursday Erving underwent offseason shoulder surgery. He appeared on the sidelines without a helmet and did not take part in any drills.

Kelce underwent offseason ankle surgery and expects to remain out until training camp, but the All-Pro tight end did attend practice watching the tight ends and offseason on the field. Reid said Kelce continues making positive progress in his rehabilitation.

“He's doing good, yeah, he's champing at the bit out here,” Reid said. “He stands right behind you and watches everybody.”

Two other veterans are not working with the club during OTAs. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill remains suspended from club activities indefinitely. Defensive end Chris Jones, who is entering the final season of his four-year rookie contract, has skipped the voluntary portion of offseason workouts as his agent continues working on a long-term extension.

Reid said he did not know have any information on conversations between Jones and the club.

“I don't know how they're talking to him,” Reid said. “I haven't talked to him.”

Two rookie free agents, defensive end Tim Ward (knee) and linebacker Darius Harris (shoulder), did not practice but did appear on the sidelines. The club signed both players with pre-existing injuries from their college careers.

Quarterback T.J. Linta, tight end John Phillips and cornerback Jalin Burrell did not appear on the field during Thursday's practice. Reid did not indicate a reason for their absence. The Chiefs signed Phillips to a free agent deal on Tuesday.

Linebacker Anthony Hitchens did not participate in practice Thursday for personal reasons.
