Tickets for potential home playoff game on sale Thursday, the Chiefs announce

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The AFC West title and No. 3 seed in the playoffs are yet to be determined heading into the final week of the regular season.

But it doesn’t hurt to prepare for the best-case scenario.

The Chiefs announced Tuesday that tickets for a potential AFC Wild Card home game at Arrowhead Stadium will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, Dec. 31.

According to the Chiefs, tickets may be purchased online at, by telephone at 800-745-3000 or by visiting the ticket office at Arrowhead Stadium, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT.

Single-game playoff tickets not played at Arrowhead Stadium will be refunded the full amount, the Chiefs announced.

The Chiefs (10-5) are a game behind the division-leading Denver Broncos (11-4), but the Chiefs own the tiebreaker based on a better division record.

Kansas City will host the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT in Week 17, while the Broncos host the San Diego Chargers at the same time.

A Chiefs’ win combined with a Broncos’ loss will put the tiebreaker in play, which would give the Chiefs the AFC West division crown and the No. 3 seed with the right to host AFC Wild Card Weekend at Arrowhead Stadium.

Should the Broncos win the AFC West, the Chiefs will go on the road in the first round of the playoffs as either a fifth or sixth seed, pending the outcomes of the New York Jets-Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers-Cleveland Browns matchups.

Kansas City will secure the fifth seed if the Chiefs finish in a tie with either the Jets (10-5) or Steelers (9-6), but would be seeded sixth if the Jets finish with a better record.

The Chiefs own the tiebreaker over the Steelers based on Week 7’s 23-13 win.

The first round of the playoffs is scheduled for Jan. 9-10; the divisional round is Jan. 16-17; and the AFC Championship Game is scheduled for Jan. 24.
