ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The injury bug reared its head yet again Monday at Chiefs training camp.

Left tackle Eric Fisher, safety Sanders Commings and offensive tackle Tavon Rooks and left the practice field with various ailments, while rookie inside linebacker Justin March was not present.

Fisher suffered an ankle sprain during 9-on-7 drills and was taken up the hill on a cart. The third-year pro had a noticeable limp.

“He’ll have that checked afterwards here with an MRI,” coach Andy Reid said after practice

Reid said Rooks experienced “shortness of breath” before leaving the field. Rooks spent time in the trainer’s tent receiving attention from team personnel before departing the practice area to walk up the hill under his own power.

Commings was present at the start of practice before joining the previously injured players on the side to work with trainers.

“He’s got just a little ankle inflammation, swelling of his ankle,” Reid said of Commings. “We had him do a few things and pulled him out.”

Reid said March suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s night preseason game and could not practice.

Meanwhile, linebacker James-Michael Johnson put in his first practice of training camp since starting on the non-football injury list with a calf strain.

Wide receiver Jeret Smith also returned to practice after missing time with a hamstring injury, and running back Knile Davis, who left the preseason opener with a knee injury, practiced.

Quarterback Tyler Bray (knee), wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas (calf), offensive lineman Garrett Frye (knee), tight end Demetrius Harris (foot), linebacker Josh Mauga (heel), rookie linebacker D.J. Alexander (ankle) and defensive end Mike Catapano (groin) did not practice and worked with trainers off to the side.

Right tackle Jeff Allen (knee), defensive tackle Dontari Poe (back) and wide receiver Junior Hemingway (hip) were not on the practice field.
