Yesterday, on NFL.com, Maurice Jones-Drew came out with his running back rankings entering the 2019 season. I have no problem with who he ranked #1 overall with Saquon Barkley. Barkley is an incredible talent. Ezekiel Elliott is the only other name I'd consider for the title of RB in the game (MJD had Zeke at 4th).
The real crime of these rankings is where Cardinals RB David Johnson is placed... No, he isn't in the top 10... No, He's not even in the top half of starting running backs... MJD ranked Johnson at 25!!! Yes, 25th overall. Only 7 starting running backs are lower than Johnson. How is this possible?
I know David Johnson as been banged up of recent, but 25th? Johnson finished last season with 940 yards but added 50 catches for 446 yards and 10 total touchdowns. Not horrible when you account for how bad the 3-13 team preformed in 2018. Johnson's numbers on a down year were still better than several players ranked ahead of him. Leonard Fournette only had 439 rushing and 185 receiving yards in 6 scores. LeSean McCoy only had 514 yards with a measly 3.2 yards per carry. Both were somehow ranked over Johnson.
In 2016, Johnson put up some crazy fantasy football numbers. He had 1,239 rushing yards, 80 catches for 879 yards and 20 total touchdowns! Can Johnson put up these types of numbers again this year with Kingsbury's new offense? Possibly. What do you think? Where should David Johnson be ranked compared to the other starting running backs this season? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and make sure to follow me on Twitter @TylerJaggi
