Report Card: Bills' Defense Earns High Honors; Quarterbacks Get 'F' for Failure

Mistakes on special teams also contribute to loss, wiping out sound effort on defense

OFFENSE

Passing Game: Josh Allen was ineffective long before Nathan Peterman crumbled - again. Allen was 10 of 17 for 82 yards but had 45 yards passing before a 39-completion in the third quarter. Peterman was was 6 of 12 for 61 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The only TD people will remember is the one he threw to Johnathan Joseph, who plays for the Texans. Grade: F

Running Game: LeSean McCoy had 76 yards on 16 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt. He had 24 carries in the win over Tennessee and should have had at least that many Sunday. Chris Ivory had six carries for 5 yards. Grade: C

Offensive Line: The group was solid overall against a very good defense. Allen was sacked twice, largely because he was slow making his reads and getting rid of the ball. McCoy had room to run. Grade: B

Wide Receivers: Zay Jones finally made an important catch, a first this season. He gave the Bills the lead after hauling in Peterman's touchdown toss. He and Benjamin combined for five catches for 78 yards. It's still not enough. Grade: C-

DEFENSE

Passing Game: Deshaun Watson was averaging 324 yards per game but finished with only 177. He was sacked seven times and was largely ineffective. Tre'Davious White held DeAndre Hopkins to his fewest catches (five) for his fewest yards (63) this season. Grade: A

Running Game: The Texans had only 74 yards rushing. Lamar Miller (46 yards) and Alfred Blue (26 yards) were mostly ineffective if not invisible. Grade: A

Defensive Line: Buffalo have Houston all it could handle and more at the line of scrimmage. The Bills' D-line combined for five sacks and nine hits on Watson. Kyle Williams had two sacks while Jerry Hughes had 1 1/2. Grade A

Special Teams: Ray-Ray McCloud muffed a punt that led to a Houston touchdown. The Bills also had a punt blocked, leading to a field goal. Grade: F
