Coach Shanahan: “There’s motivation to improve our team whatever way possible.”

A sixth consecutive loss and seventh in eight games on Sunday has the San Francisco 49ers looking to shed some players ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday.

“There’s motivation to improve our team whatever way possible,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “We’re looking into all of those and hopefully some good ones will come up that we think can help us.”

One of the most prominent names so far has been wide receiver Pierre Garcon.

“He is one of the guys that people have asked about and we have talked about, but nothing is going down right now,” Shanahan said. “We’ll see how these next two days play out with Pierre and a lot of people.”

Having a Thursday night game on the trade deadline week makes things more difficult all around.

“We had a lot of injuries last night, too,” Shanahan said. “Would love to be totally locked into this trade deadline, which we will be, but also got to find out who’s possible of playing here in a few days. That’s why there’s a lot going on and all these decisions play off of each other. So, just trying to buy some time with it as much as we can.”

With lackluster play and a number of injuries, it may be tough for anyone on the 49ers roster to really appear to suitors around the league.

“You’ve got to have suitors and there’s got to be options,” Shanahan said. “We’re looking into all of those and hopefully some good ones will come up that we think can help us.”

But with the trade rumors swirling, the 49ers have to prepare for a rivalry game on Thursday vs. the Oakland Raiders.

“The players have got to come in here for treatment, but my experience with these games that come so fast and guys don’t have the time to recover, the best thing for recovery is sleep,” Shanahan said. “So, the guys who are injured have got to come in and rehab, but everyone else we’re not going to see today. Then, they’re going to come in tomorrow, we’re going to push it back a little bit more tomorrow morning just so they can sleep in a little bit more. Then, I’ll talk about this game quickly at our team meeting, but we’ve got to move on to Oakland very fast.”

Shanahan reiterated the quick turnaround, saying he was ready to move on after his weekly press conference on Monday.

“As soon as I am done with you guys, I’ll be officially done with the Cardinals and it’ll be Oakland from here until kickoff.”
